Last century, Bratislava had a man everyone knew. Not a politician, not a rich man. Ignác Lamár, a poor man in a tailcoat, with a top hat and a cane, walked the promenade every day, greeting ladies with a polite bow. The people of Pressburg called him Schöne Náci, handsome Náci.
Who was Ignác Lamár
He was born in 1897 in Petržalka; his father was a shoemaker and his grandfather a clown. Náci trained as a shoemaker, but after the war he lived on the kindness of the cafés and pastry shops he visited. He spoke German, Hungarian and Slovak, like the whole city. He told the ladies „Ich küss die Hand“, gave children smiles, and gave the city an elegance he could not afford. He died in 1967. Today his bronze statue by Juraj Meliš stands on the corner of Rybárska brána and the Main Square, a few steps from us.
Prešporok, Pressburg, Pozsony
The city Náci lived in had three names and three languages: German Pressburg, Hungarian Pozsony, Slovak Prešporok. Viennese sausages, Hungarian goulash and Slovak halušky met on one table. That is the kitchen we cook: cod salad with bread, pagáč scones, pirohy, the „gypsy roast“, ribs, strudel. Home-style, from local ingredients, no buzzwords.

Who we are
Schöne Náci is a new bistro and deli at Ventúrska 5. Breakfast and coffee in the morning, Slovak cooking during the day, Urpiner on tap, Slovak and Austrian wines and local spirits in the evening. Some dishes, such as the dark-beer goulash or the potato salad, we share with our other place, Sladovňa, at the back of the courtyard.
Local, from people we know
Our ingredients and the products on our shelf come from small local producers we know by name: coffee from the Zlaté Zrnko roastery, honey from a beekeeper in Dvorianky, cheeses from the Cheesio farm, wines from winemakers in Rust and Göttlesbrunn, beer from Banská Bystrica. We pick what we love ourselves and sell it the way we would offer it at home: packed while you wait, with a tip on what it goes with.
Ich küss die Hand
Náci had nothing, and still gave the city the most precious thing: attention and courtesy. We stick to that too. Come for breakfast or a beer, sit by the window and watch all of Pressburg walk down Ventúrska.

Come and see us
Breakfast from 8:30, from 8:00 at weekends.
